Family Portraits with the Mesa Bunch

Photographer’s Note:

Since I have moved into my own place and spent a total 8 months as an independent adult in the United States, I have to say that I absolutely love it. I can come and leave as I please. Cook whenever I want. Watch whatever I want. Look how want. Basically do whatever my little heart desires. The feeling is truly amazing to be fully in my own presence taking life one day at a time. However, I miss my parents, my siblings, and my family who are all scattered throughout the globe. I remember baking delicious brownies with my mom, watching a fútbol match with my dad, or horsing around with my brother.

Those are the good memories that I want to cherish every day. Even though we are miles apart, I know we can always count on life granting us these special moments as many times as we would like them to occur. Photographs, in a way, do that! They take you back and bring you forth! They help us remember.  Therefore, when it came to photographing the Mesa family, I used my family as a template. I wanted to get to know them – their activities, values, fears, insecurities, quirkiness, humor.

The Mesa Family:

Maddy and Mayme came to me late October for a surprise family portrait session in honor of their parents’ wedding anniversary. It had been quite some time since they had taken a decent photograph together. They wanted an upgrade, some Christmas card options, FUN, and celebration. Why NOT!? It would be my pleasure in creating and sharing that experience with them.

I took into consideration their chosen words from the questionnaire I sent them: Loving, Humorous, and Family! Keeping those in mind I curated their collection to include all types of photos. The funny and silly ones, the traditional, and also the candid and fun ones.

Each one of them played as a mirror  reflecting all the qualities I love about my people. In two hours we shared conversations about adventuring, reading, shell picking, and dark humor. It was through our parallels that I was able to gracefully capture the soul of their bond!
