Travel, Photos, Linguistics: Portraits with Nikki

Individual portraits

There are more than 7.6 billion people in the world and yet you only get to meet a small portion of them. Don’t you find that interesting? I think it is mind blowing. No matter how much we travel, it is merely impossible to encounter each and every individual on Earth. Makes you value your relationships even more, huh? Well, out of those 7 or so million I had the pleasure of meeting Nikki Mckenna at our local store, MyPhoto.

Before I pursued my photography career full time, Nikki and I shared 6 hours a day printing beautiful custom art for our community. In the time we worked together I watched her color code Post-Its, reorganize the supply room more than once, and alphabetize orders. Some may label her love for organization a bit OCD, but I simply called it “Extreme Preparation.” All in black, She often revealed pieces of her personality through her incredible shoes. They were pointy, others metallic in color, and occasionally the studs would come out. There was never an occasion where we didn’t reminiscent about our travels and adventures. Those two topics, and food, were the must-haves at every work party or reunion.

Nikki, I realized, is the kindest and goofiest soul. First of all she loves Harry Potter. In fact, she spent an entire weekend binge watching the collection! Today people opt for E-cards and text messages, while Nikki sends post cards and Christmas letters. From her trip to Mexico, she brought me some Tequila and Frida, because she knew my deep appreciation for both. What Nikki does is listen. She listens to what you need or desire and if she comes across it, she gets it for you. She thinks of you no matter where she is.

Benji, her dog, is her most valuable companion, besides her boyfriend of course. She will always find the sun, the ocean, and her two favorite fellas to be constant variables in her life. Although her story is still being written, she instills remnants of it through photographs. Flowers and murals to be common themes. Oh! It is important to note that her life’s  theme song will be one from a 90’s alternative playlist. To be honest, Nikki holds the heart of a beautiful goddess and out of those 7.6 billion people, I am only glad to have captured her portraits through my camera!
