Sometimes, once in a while, the West Palm Beach community gets together to honor and cherish some of the most outstanding athletes in our area. I had the privilege to share such experience with 63 skillful athletes and their supportive families during ESPN’s Award Ceremony. It was an evening filled with Papa John’s pizza, Duffy’s wings, Subway’s 6 inch, and Coke refreshments. All throughout the event ESPN radio talk hosts held personal interviews with sporting experts, coaches, and the athletes themselves. The step and repeat had various bystanders posing their best smiles for smart phone photographs. D1, the gym where the ceremony took place, kept its sporting atmosphere up high with interactive games and roaming areas for eating and mingling.
Even the major of Palm Beach Gardens, Maria G. Marino, shared some laughs with the athletes and ESPN staffing. An energetic atmosphere filled the ceremony room, where Sean’s Dance Factory threw an upbeat hip hop dance performance. The crowd held their small screens up in hopes of capturing glimpses of such memorable event. Speeches were made, videos were watched, and claps were thrown for the top 10 receiving their prestigious trophies. An event of 63 athletes who, beyond competitors, were allies and friends!
